Keiynan Lonsdale of ‘The Flash’ Comes Out As Bisexual on Instagram

In a candid post yesterday on Instagram, Keiynan Lonsdale came out as bisexual and discussed his reasons for his decision to live openly. An Australian-born actor, Lonsdale plays Wally West (aka Kid Flash) in the CW’s superhero series, The Flash.

In the post, Keiynan says:

“I like to change my hair, I like to take risks with how I dress, I like girls, & I like guys (yes), I like growing, I like learning, I like who I am and I really like who I’m becoming. Spent way too many years hating myself, thinking I was less valuable because I was different.. which is just untrue.

A couple years ago I was able to accept myself, & it saved my life, but now I’ve gotten to a new road block & I feel kind of lost. I gotta take the next step & actually embrace who I am, which is pretty exciting. Not faking shit anymore, not apologising for falling in love with people no matter their gender. I’ve become bored of being insecure, ashamed, scared… no one should feel like that about themselves, especially when there is so much good life to live.

Ya know more & more I see so many young people being their best / truest selves, it’s fucking inspiring… so what have I been waiting for!? Who knows. Everyone in their own time. I hope we can all learn to embrace who we are & not judge people who aren’t exactly the same as us. The truth is we are all family, we’re all one. Just love. Keiy.”

Keiynan joins a long list of other celebrities who have taken to Instagram in recent months to share their true selves with the world. Other recent Instagram celebrity coming outs include pro-wrestler Anthony Bowens, Teen Wolf actor Charlie Carver and Country Music Television host Cody Alan.

Lonsdale got his first acting job in 2007, with a big dancing part in the film Razzle Dazzle. The following year, he appeared in an episode of the Australian television medical drama All Saints. He was a VJ on MTV for two and a half years. He released a single on iTunes titled “One and Only” in 2014. In 2016, his single “Higher” was included on Connor Franta’s curated album Common Culture, volume 5.

Lonsdale played a supporting role as Uriah Pedrad in The Divergent Series: Insurgent, the second film in the series. He briefly reprised the role in The Divergent Series: Allegiant. He also appeared in the historical drama The Finest Hours as Eldon Hanon, the youngest sailor involved in a rescue at sea.

In 2015, he auditioned for the role of Jefferson “Jax” Jackson – a recurring character introduced in the second season of the CW’s The Flash, later spun off into Legends of Tomorrow – but this role was given to Franz Drameh. Instead Lonsdale was cast as Wally West, the estranged son of the hero’s foster father, who became a regular supporting character as Kid Flash.
