Singer, songwriter, and actress; Olivia Newton-John announced on Facebook that she will be postponing her June tour dates to begin treatment for breast cancer. In her statement, Olivia wrote, “The back pain that initially caused her to postpone the first half of her concert tour, has turned out to be breast cancer that has metastasized to the sacrum.” Her doctors initially thought it was sciatica.

Olivia is no stranger to breast cancer, the 68-year-old was first diagnosed 25 years ago and has become an advocate for cancer research. Following her initial battle, she started the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne.

“I decided on my direction of therapies after consultation with my doctors and natural therapists and the medical team at my Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia,” says Olivia Newton-John.

According to Olivia’s social media team, “There will be no interview requests accepted at this time as Olivia’s focus is on her treatment and healing. Ticket buyers for the upcoming concerts should contact venues directly about refunds. Rescheduled concert dates will be posted at OliviaNewton-John.com in the coming weeks.”

OliviaNewton-John is no stranger to suffering and pain. Her partner of 9 years, Former cameraman Patrick McDermott and  Australian star vanished in June 2005 while on an overnight fishing trip off the coast of San Pedro, California. The Coast Guard launched an exhaustive search of the area in hopes of finding his body but had no luck and in November 2008 declared McDermott  ‘most likely drowned. A decade later, it has been reported that he is alive and well and living in Mexico with his current girlfriend. Olivia also lost her mother and her sister to cancer.
