The massive manhunt for two Georgia inmates who allegedly escaped a prison transport bus after slaying the corrections officers aboard has ended.
According to Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal, 43-year-old Donnie Russell Rowe and 24-year-old Ricky DuBose were apprehended after a car chase in Tennessee. Police say they attempted to stop the dangerous duo after spotting a car they believed the two were in. The fugitives ditched the automobile and unsuccessfully fled on foot.
The shootings happened Tuesday morning at about 5:45 a.m. on GA 16 in Putnam County Georgia. Officials with the Putnam Sheriff’s Office said about 31 other inmates were on the prison bus when Rowe and DuBose somehow made their way through a locked gate and disarmed and overpowered the two Baldwin State Prison Corrections officers before fatally shooting them.
Rowe was serving a life sentence for aggravated assault and armed robbery. DuBose too was convicted of armed robbery, aggravated assault and theft.
The two fallen officers were identified as Sergeant Christopher Monica and Curtis Billue.
Monica, 42, is survived by his wife. He had served nearly eight years for the department. Billue, 58, was an employee for 10-years and leaves behind his father, brother and sister.
