Bob Barker, the former host of the Price is Right is the latest subject of an internet death hoax. The television icon is still alive and well at the age of 93 years old despite claims that he has died of a head injury.

In July 2016, a web site called Action News 3 published an article reporting that Barker had died of a head injury sustained in a fall at home. Simply thanks to the glory of Facebook’s On This Day feature, from now until the end of days we will be reminded that people have too much time on their hands.

We are not linking to the article, because we see no need in helping websites that use fake news to further their click counts.

The celebrity death hoax has been around for years. In the 80’s it was rumored that Susan Olsen, who played Cindy Brady, had died in a car wreck. However, Olsen is still alive and well today.

Of course, Barker’s age is one reason why this is believed so easily. It is unlikely that anyone living today remembers a time when Bob Barker was not on television. As the host of The Price is Right on CBS from 1972 to 2007, Barker was a household name. Sadly, he will fall victim to this again next year when it recycles in the feeds.

As well, Bob Barker is a huge advocate for prisoners’ rights because of his son who spent time in prison. Most people who have spent time in jail will tell you of the tooth brushes provided by Bob Barker’s nonprofit.

As many know as well, Bob Barker was always a friend to animals and he ended each episode of TPIR with one simple statement. In honor of his continuing life, we leave you with this:

Help control the pet population. Have your pets spayed or neutered.
