Chloë Sevigny is the latest high-profile actor to join HBO’s upcoming true-crime limited series The Trial of Louise Woodward, playing the defendant’s lead counsel. The show revisits the 1997 case of a young British au pair whose trial drew intense attention on both sides of the Atlantic.

Sevigny will portray defense attorney Elaine Whitfield Sharp opposite Catriona Chandler, who takes the title role of Louise Woodward. The ensemble also includes Joanne Froggatt, Meghann Fahy and Sagar Radia.

Froggatt is set to play Louise’s mother, Susan. Fahy and Radia appear as Deborah and Sunil Eappen, the parents of the infant at the center of the case, Matthew Eappen.
Creative team and premise
Matthew Barry created the limited series and serves as showrunner, writer and an executive producer. The drama reconstructs how an 18-year-old au pair was accused of fatally shaking a baby left in her care, an allegation that sparked an international media storm during the trial.
Susanne Bier is attached to direct every episode. Other executive producers include Frank Spotnitz, Emily Feller, Tobi de Graaff and Antoine Douaihy. Production companies on the project are Big Light Productions and Anton TV.
Sevigny’s recent work
Sevigny currently stars in Peacock’s drama The Five-Star Weekend, which the streamer promoted as its largest scripted launch to date and has already been renewed for a second season.
Last year she received her first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for portraying Kitty Menendez in Ryan Murphy’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. She is represented by WME and Circle Management + Production.
