Real-life couple Tim Daly and Téa Leoni will lead NBC’s new comedy Newlyweds, with the network releasing first-look photos of the pair and the supporting cast. The series centers on an unexpected, later-in-life romance between Leoni’s free-spirited Jeanie and Daly’s reserved philosophy professor, James.

Premise

The show follows what happens after a chance encounter at a valet stand leads to a whirlwind courtship and an impulsive wedding. James, recently divorced, is drawn to Jeanie’s energy and independence.

He soon recognizes that married life with her will be far from the quiet, stay-at-home routine he prefers. Still, James decides he would rather change his habits than lose the relationship.

Principal cast

Jamie Lee Curtis joins the series as Claudia, James’ ex-wife. Emma Meisel and Ignacio Diaz-Silverio play Jeanie’s children, Poppy and Lolo.

Bill O’Neill appears as Arvid, James’ assistant in the philosophy department at the University of Oslo. Comedian Al Madrigal plays Dan, James’ divorced best friend, whose plans for single life are upended by the couple’s sudden marriage.

According to the production notes, Dan is also the matchmaker behind the pair—a role that creates friction with Claudia.

Behind the scenes and release

Newlyweds was co-created by Gail Lerner and Jamie Lee Curtis, both of whom serve as executive producers. Lerner is the show’s showrunner. Pam Fryman directed and executive produced the pilot episode.

Other executive producers include Eric and Kim Tannenbaum and Jason Wang for The Tannenbaum Company, along with Scott Schwartz and Lionsgate Television. The studio is Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

The series is scheduled to premiere Friday, October 23 at 8:30 p.m. on NBC. NBC’s first-look images of the cast are available from the network.
