October 2026: Amazon’s announcements so far

Show summary Hide summary

Amazon is replacing its Fire tablet line with a premium range called **Alexa tablets**, now on sale in the US, Mexico, Canada, the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain. The new models promise higher-end screens, faster chips and full access to the Google Play Store — a notable shift from Amazon’s previous Fire OS strategy.

Three models aimed at different users

Alexa Tablet 8

The smallest model starts at $230 and focuses on portability. It has an 8.7-inch display, an eight‑core processor, a two‑core graphics unit, 4GB of RAM and either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. Amazon lists the tablet as 0.3 inches thick and weighing 16.4 ounces.

Battery life is advertised at up to 14 hours of video playback and about 19 hours of Kindle reading on a single charge. The device is positioned primarily as an entertainment tablet.

Alexa Tablet 11

Priced from $330, the mid-size model upgrades the screen to an 11-inch, 2.5K panel with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 16:10 aspect ratio. It pairs the eight‑core CPU and a two‑core GPU with a fifth‑generation MDLA NPU for on-device AI tasks, and it uses 8GB of RAM.

Storage options match the smaller tablet and the unit includes dual Dolby Atmos speakers. Amazon claims battery life reaches up to 15 hours of video playback. The Alexa Tablet 11 also features a fingerprint sensor.

Alexa Tablet 12 Pro

The flagship model carries a $500 price and is described by Amazon as its most powerful tablet to date. It has a 12-inch, 280‑PPI display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 3:2 aspect ratio, along with an eight‑core processor and a seven‑core GPU.

Other specs include an eighth‑generation MDLA NPU, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Amazon’s figures put battery life at up to 16 hours of video playback and up to 20 hours for Kindle reading. A fingerprint sensor is included on this model as well.

Displays, optional Nanomatte and accessories

Amazon offers an anti‑glare screen option called Nanomatte, which the company says preserves color accuracy and detail while giving ebooks a more paper‑like appearance. The Nanomatte finish is a $50 upgrade.

For productivity, the 12 Pro supports a magnetic keyboard and a stylus. Amazon priced the **Alexa Tablet Pro Pen** at $90 and the **Alexa Tablet Pro Keyboard** at $150, both sold separately.

Software, assistant features and Kindle experience

Unlike Fire tablets, the Alexa lineup runs **Android 16** with a custom interface on top. That change brings direct access to the **Google Play Store**, allowing users to install a wider range of apps without sideloading.

All models include Amazon’s Alexa+ experience. Users can enable a feature that lets the assistant answer questions about what’s on the screen. The Kindle app is preinstalled and, according to Amazon, tuned to reduce distractions and blue light for more comfortable reading.

Kids variants and a key limitation

Amazon also sells Kids editions of the Alexa Tablet 8 and Alexa Tablet 11. Those versions retain an aluminum body but come packaged with a protective child‑proof case and include one year of Amazon Kids+ access.

One noteworthy omission across the range is expandable storage: none of the new Alexa tablets appears to include a microSD slot. That makes the on‑device storage options more consequential for buyers who keep large media libraries.
