Anthropic’s Claude groups what it remembers by topic and gives users direct controls to review, change, or remove those topic-based memories. Below are clear, platform-specific steps for managing those memories and an explanation of how Claude treats sensitive information and global memory settings.
Edit topic-based memories on the web
Open Claude’s web client at claude.ai and access your profile menu. From there, choose Settings and then select Memory.

Within the Memory page, scroll to the Topics section. Use the on-screen Edit icon to change a saved topic or the Delete icon to remove it entirely. When you edit a topic, type the change you want into the prompt bar to tell Claude how to update that memory.
Manage memory from the mobile app
On mobile, tap your profile icon to open Settings. Under the App area, select Capabilities, then find and tap Memory files.

Select the topic you want to review. To alter a memory, describe the edit in the prompt bar; to erase it, tap the trash icon. The interface mirrors the web flow but uses the app’s menus and icons.
Sensitive topics: what Claude will and won’t save
Anthropic has added an option labeled Include sensitive topics in memory. By default, Claude does not store memories tied to sensitive areas such as health, race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, politics, or gender identity. Turning on this option allows Claude to record more sensitive information.
When a sensitive-topic memory is created after enabling the setting, you will see a notice. Anthropic warns that “if you’re using an older version or the mobile app, you will not see this notice, and Claude won’t save the sensitive topic to its memory.”
Claude will not retroactively add past conversations to its stored memories, and some data — for example, government ID numbers — will never be saved, even when the sensitive-topics option is on.
Pausing, disabling or resetting Claude’s memory
Memory generation is enabled for users by default. If you prefer to stop automatic memory creation, toggle off Generate memory from chats in Settings.
Once that toggle is off, Anthropic offers two choices: Pause memory, which temporarily halts new memory creation, or Reset memory, which clears existing stored memories. The company cautions that the reset action is permanent. “Upon re-enabling the feature, you’ll start from scratch, and Claude will not have its previous memory,” Anthropic notes.
