Russia to China: “shall we dance?”

MOSCOW, December 12 (Itar-Tass) — At present, Russia is holding talks with China on a whole range of contracts in all directions of military-technical cooperation, director of the Federal Service on Military –Technical Cooperation of Russia Mikhail Dmitriyev told journalists on Friday, commenting on the results of the 13th meeting of the Russian-Chinese Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation that was held in Beijing on December 11.

Russia is filling orders and implementing all its commitments to deliver Il-76 military transport planes and long-range Il-78 aerial refuelling tankers to China, Mikhail Dmitriev told reporters. While commenting on the results of the thirteenth meeting of the Russo-Chinese Mixed Intergovernmental Commission for Military-Technical Cooperation, which was held in Beijing on December 11 and which he had personally attended.

General motors opens a plant in Russia

ST. PETERSBURG, November 7 Itar-Tass — Russian President Dmitry Medvedev attended the opening of a General Motors plant in the village of Shushary near St. Petersburg on Friday.

General Motors is the second foreign automobile company to open a plant in St. Petersburg, after Toyota. Nissan, Hyundai and Suzuki projects will come next.

General Motors started to do business in Russia in 1992.

The General Motors plant in St. Petersburg was constructed within the shortest period in the company’s history – about two years, President of General Motors Europe Carl-Peter Foster told a press conference that marked the plant startup.

Russia builds a new Federal University in Siberia

The prime minister noted the special importance of the Siberian Federal University as one of the country’s top education centres, which is being built in accordance with the National Education Project,” Peskov stated. Moreover, he quoted Putin as saying that “such education centres will help train skilled specialists with a higher education”.

Three Federal Universities are now being built in the country – the Far Eastern, Siberian and Southern.

Russia writes off 93 percent of the Iraqi debt. The amount equals 12 billion dollars. The rest of the Iraqi state debt to Russia in the amount of 900 million dollars will be restructured for 17 years, as Russia’s Finance Minister Aleksey Kudrin said. The agreement on the regulation of Iraq’s state debt to the Russian Federation was signed on February 11, 2008
