This is one of those head shaking, “only in Australia” stories.  Sorry Aussies, you folks sometimes operate your society like a reality show.  Not that the USA doesn’t do the same, witness Sarah Palin.  See the especially “creepy” portrait of the photographer in question.  Would you like him trolling the playgrounds of your kids school?

REVELATIONS that photographer Bill Henson selected children to pose nude for him by scouring primary school playgrounds at lunchtime have sparked anger and alarm among parents groups and principals.

Four months after NSW police seized Henson’s work from a Sydney gallery, the photographer has sparked renewed debate after making his first public defence of his work.

A corporate law expert has dismissed calls by the federal Opposition Leader, Malcolm Turnbull, for intervention in the Australian banking system similar to the US bailout of financial institutions.

Mr Turnbull wants a bipartisan approach to dealing with the financial crisis, and has suggested a similar plan to that proposed by the US Treasury.

He says local authorities could take on board some of the measures instituted in the US to shore up financial institutions.

Alex Bellini, who is rowing across the Pacific Ocean from Lima, Peru, to Sydney, Australia, is in French Polynesia waters, the French Maritime Search and Rescue (MRCC) operation reported Tuesday.

Bellini, who set out on Feb. 21 planning to reach Sydney sometime in December, was 50 kilometers (31 miles) from the Tuamotu atoll of Manihi on Tuesday, moving at an average speed of four kilometers (2.5 miles) per hour, the MRCC said in a communiqué.

The rower spent 136 days at sea not having seen any sign of human life for four months until he recently encountered the Tahitian fishing boat Lady Chris, the MRCC reported.

WESTERN Australia is facing a crippling gas supply crisis that could deny the nation significant export revenue from the China-led mining boom at a critical phase in the economic cycle.

WA Premier Alan Carpenter warned yesterday he might eventually need to invoke emergency powers to seize control over all gas and electricity supplies after an explosion at akey mining site last week cutoff one third of the state’s gas supply, The Australian reports.

Thank God the Australians are on the earth.  We Americans need to have some other country more nutz and crazy than us.  We are racist and ignorant sometimes but this is one or those stories you gotta put in the only in Australia category.

RACIST attacks, second-rate colleges, greedy landlords and low-paid jobs are making life a misery for many foreign students in Melbourne.  Seventeen foreign students died in Victoria in the past year from boarding home fires, murders, car crashes and drownings.
