Lava entered the ocean late Wednesday night for the first time since June 2007. By Thursday morning, the lava had formed a small delta, extending for about 100 yards along the face of the sea cliff. The former gravel road to the 2001-2002 lava viewing site can be seen the the middle of the photograph. The lava has flowed across it in two places on its way to the sea. - Hawaiian Volcano Observatory
