CRANBROOK, B.C.–A pedestrian crushed today under the exploding fireball of a crashed helicopter had little warning of the tragedy, witnesses said.

The person was walking along a residential street in the quiet community of Cranbrook, B.C., when the chopper dropped out of the sky and onto the pavement, killing three people on board the aircraft and the pedestrian below.

The 25-year-old San Francisco resident was on one of those surfing trips this week on the Pacific coast of Mexico with his friend, Brant Helms, when, while surfing, they saw a shark in the water, acquaintances said Wednesday. The two surfers joked about keeping their toes out of the water.

54 Burmese job seekers suffocate in Ranong

Fifty-four job seekers from Burma suffocated in the back of a seafood truck in Ranong province while being smuggled to the Phuket.  An additional 47 workers survived the incident late Wednesday and alerted police.Twenty-one were hospitalized while the rest were detained for questioning.

Two men employed by the Jalisco Water Commission (CEA) drowned in Lake Chapala Friday, February 22, in a boating accident that occurred while they were collecting samples one kilometer offshore between Santa Cruz de la Soledad and San Nicolas de Ibarra. A pair of the victims’ co-workers survived the incident with the aid of a local fisherman.
