Tensions increase in Thai-Cambodian border stand-off - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
Cambodia had demanded that a group of Thai troops near the Preah Vihear temple in the country’s north-west leave the area by noon local time.

If not, Cambodian Prime Minister, Hun Sen, said it would be a life and death battle zone.

The deadline has been and gone.

The Cambodians claim the Thai soldiers have withdrawn, while the Thais deny that.

“They pulled out from our land,” Cambodian General Chea Mon told Reuters by phone from the border shortly before the expiry of a midday local deadline set by Phnom Penh.

“The situation seems to have returned to normal,” he said.

“Our troops are occupying the area where the Thai troops have pulled out.”

However, the Thai military said it was ready for war and that no soldiers had been withdrawn.
