Special flight checks to begin for Olympics

BEIJING — Civil Aviation Administration of China CAAC announced on Monday to start “special” security checks at 19 airports to guarantee a safe Olympic Games.

The CAAC said “special” checks would start from July 20, but did not detail the checks.

Palau’s President Tommy Remengesau says he expected to be shown some sensitivity rather than being frisked by Continental Airlines staff in the Philippines this week.

President Remengesau ended his official state visit to the Philippines with an embarrassing diplomatic situation after Continental Airlines security personnel at the Manila airport refused to allow him to board his flight without undergoing a physical body search.

SIX aircraft flying into Sydney Airport have been hit in a co-ordinated attack by blinding green lights in what safety officials say is the city’s worst laser attack.  Air traffic controllers closed the approach flight path and diverted incoming aircraft to a different runway on Friday night, forcing some flights to land up to half an hour late.
