Pacific Magazine: Solo Rower In French Polynesia Headed To Australia
Alex Bellini, who is rowing across the Pacific Ocean from Lima, Peru, to Sydney, Australia, is in French Polynesia waters, the French Maritime Search and Rescue (MRCC) operation reported Tuesday.

Bellini, who set out on Feb. 21 planning to reach Sydney sometime in December, was 50 kilometers (31 miles) from the Tuamotu atoll of Manihi on Tuesday, moving at an average speed of four kilometers (2.5 miles) per hour, the MRCC said in a communiqué.

The rower spent 136 days at sea not having seen any sign of human life for four months until he recently encountered the Tahitian fishing boat Lady Chris, the MRCC reported.

Rural Chinese workers exploited for Olympic projects: lobby group - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

An American human rights group says Chinese workers constructing Olympic venues are living in appalling conditions.  Beijing’s construction boom ahead of the Olympics has provided jobs for hundreds of thousands of rural workers.  But these so-called ‘migrant workers’ face routine abuse, according to a new report.  The New York Based Human Rights Watch says they work on dangerous construction sites with no access to medical treatment.

THAILAND: The city of Korat, northeast of the Thai capital Bangkok, is all set to host the opening of the Southeast Asian Games on Thursday, with more than a million spectators expected over ten days of competition.With a capacity of 20,000, the stadium in Korat city will be the venue for both the opening and closing ceremonies of the SEA Games.
