BY TAKASHI EBUCHI  The U.S. subprime mortgage loan fiasco could possibly claim another victim: the planned acquisition of the nation’s third-largest brokerage group by U.S. financial giant Citigroup Inc.

Citigroup Japan Holdings Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Citigroup, plans to acquire all outstanding shares in Nikko Cordial Corp., the holding company of Nikko group companies, in January through an equity swap.
